Obituary for Charles Hurd

Charles Hurd, age 70 of Nashua, IA, died Thursday, February 8, 2018, at his home.

A private family burial will take place at a later date.

Charles Harrison Hurd was born November 9, 1947, in Greene, IA, the son of Lester and Margaret (Ackley) Hurd. Chuck attended country school near Greene, and helped farm with his dad on the family farm until enlisting in the United States Army. He served during the Vietnam war and deployed to Frankfurt Germany serving as a Combat engineer. Chuck returned home and was united in marriage to Beck Van Horn on January 29, 1966, in Charles City, IA. To this union three children were born, John, Dale and Jennifer. The couple later divorced.

Chuck was truly a jack of all trades, and had a gift for fixing things and working with his hands. He spent his working career in the welding, construction, and plumbing fields spanning over forty years. Chuck retired in 2012. Chuck was introduced to Rachel Bonefas and the couple were married July 18, 2015.

Chuck enjoyed fishing, boating, and hunting. He enjoyed camping in his younger years and as he got older enjoyed having fires in the backyard. He spent time as a member of the Water Hawks ski team in the 1960’s.

Chuck is survived by his wife, Rachel Hurd of Nashua, IA; two sons, John (Sherry) Hurd of Decorah, IA, Dale (Gena) Hurd of Goodyear, AZ; step-son, Joseph Abrahamson of Chariton, IA; daughter, Jennifer Hurd of Greenville, TN; thirteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ron Hurd of Nashua, IA, Steve (Julie) Hurd of Nashua, IA; three sisters, Jackie (Randle) Livingston of Nashua, IA, Sharon Woosley of Lebanon, MO, Mary (Arlen) Janssen of Nashua, IA; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons and two daughters in infancy; sister-in-law, Anna Hurd; brother-in-law, Jim Woosley.

The family would like to thank Cedar Valley Hospice for their care and compassion through this difficult time.
