Obituary for Helen B Dawson

Helen B. Dawson age 81 of Fredericksburg, IA, died Wednesday, January 3, 2018, at Maple Crest Manor in Fayette.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 6, 2018, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Fredericksburg with Pastor Ronnie Koch presiding. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Fredericksburg.

Friends may greet the family 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 5, 2018, at the Hugeback - Johnson Funeral Home in Fredericksburg. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Helen Bertha Dawson was born January 7, 1936, on the Harrison family farm southwest of Fredericksburg, the youngest child of Edward and Elizabeth (Gitch) Harrison. Helen was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church having been baptized on March 8, 1936 and confirmed on May 14, 1950. She received her education in Fredericksburg and was a 1955 graduate of the Fredericksburg High School. On August 19, 1956, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, she married Paul Edward Dawson. To this union two children were born.

The couple made Fredericksburg their lifetime home until their more recent residency at Maple Crest Manor in Fayette. Helen was a waitress at the local Fredericksburg restaurant for many years being employed by several owners. In her earlier years she loved the fishing trips the family took to Minnesota and Wisconsin. She and her Paul loved providing for the family in their garden and Helen also enjoyed embroidery. She will be remembered by her family for her taking such good care of them all. Helen loved her time with family, especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Paul of Fayette, one son, Ed Dawson of Cedar Rapids; one daughter, Linda Schoonover of LaCresent, MN; three grandsons, Spencer Schoonover of Houston, TX, Bronson Schoonover of Fredericksburg, Maxwell Schoonover of Minot, ND; one brother, Raymond (Dorothy) Harrison of Fredericksburg; two sisters, Marie Knoll of New Hampton, Florence (Bob) Rogers of Sumner.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a stillborn son.
