Obituary for Myron William Palmer

Myron William Palmer age 79 of New Hampton, IA, died Sunday, May 5, 2019, at his home.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 9, 2019, at Hugeback Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory in New Hampton with Rev. Kevin Frey, officiating.

Interment will be held in Rose Hill Cemetery, Fredericksburg with Bryan Palmer, Kari Osborne, Ashley Sanders, Tammy Richards, Tim Palmer and Nicholas Palmer serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Brian Carberry, Brad Carberry, Bruce Carberry, Tracy Trevethan, Michael Olson, and Jeffrey Olson.

Friends may greet the family 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at Hugeback Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory in New Hampton. Visitation continues an hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home on Thursday.

Myron William Palmer was born September 3, 1939, in Independence, IA, the son of Melvin and Edna (Voelschow) Palmer. He received his education in Independence and was a 1958 graduate of the Independence High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy and was stationed at Midway Island, returning home after receiving an honorable discharge in 1963. On July 20, 1963, at the Rowley Presbyterian Church, he married Linda Kautz. To this union, two children were born. The couple initially lived in Waterloo where both their children were born. Myron worked for Canteen Vending Services. He began by filling the machines around northeast Iowa and later became the mechanic and technician. Through the years, the company was purchased by Akin Enterprises, later to Vendors Unlimited, which he worked a combined 38 years. In his spare time, he loved to work with wood, especially Pinewood Derby cars. He enjoyed trout fishing, camping, and birdwatching. He loved grilling for his family and spending time with them. His family will fondly remember him for being so calm, gentle and loving.

Survivors include his wife, Linda; one daughter, Dawn (Rod) Rodemaker of Osage; a daughter-in-law, Dena Palmer of Fredericksburg; grandsons, Zachary Palmer of Ames, IA, Hunter Rodemaker of Clarksville, IA; step-granddaughters, Laken Rodemaker, Arien (Jon) North; sister-in-law, Nancy Carberry of Chaska, MN; sisters-in-law, Karen (Bob) Olson Of Bella Vista, Arkansas, Susan Palmer, Billie Jo Tonn both of Independence, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Tod A. Palmer; brothers, Arnold Palmer, Donald Palmer, Russel Palmer; his father and mother-in-law, Ralph and Ada Kautz, niece Kristin Palmer, brother-in-law, Larry Carberry; sister-in-law, Jane Palmer.
