Marlene "Midge" Schlindwein, age 76 of Dubuque, Iowa, formerly of New Hampton, died Thursday, January 31, 2019, at Eagle Pointe Place Assisted Living in Dubuque.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 9, 2019, at Holy Family Parish, New Hampton with Rev. Brian Dellaert celebrating the Mass. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, New Hampton at a later date.

Friends may greet the family 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 8, 2019, at the Hugeback Johnson Funeral Home in New Hampton where there will be a 6:30 p.m. parish scripture service. Visitation continues an hour prior to the Mass at the church on Saturday.

Marlene “Midge” Schlindwein was born January 6, 1943, in New Hampton, IA, the daughter of Leland and Maxine (Bigley) Whalen. She received her education in New Hampton and graduated in the Class of 1961 where she was honored to be the class Homecoming Queen. On October 6, 1962, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Hampton, she married Richard “Dick” Schlindwein. To this union, six children were born. The couple made New Hampton their home. Midge was involved at St. Joseph Catholic Church and Rosary Society, was a member of the New Hampton Golf and Country Club, loved playing Bridge and also worked at the former Manson Shoe Store. She learned sewing and knitting and enjoyed spending time making things for her family.

In 1977, the couple moved to Dubuque and were later divorced. While in Dubuque, Midge continued raising her children, worked in management at Armstrongs Department Store until it’s closing and then worked for nearly 20 years at the Dubuque Walmart Store.

She will be dearly missed by her family who will remember their mother as being the most selfless and loving mother a family could ask for.

Survivors include her four children, Tom (Karen) Schlindwein of Waukesha, WI; Liz (Craig) Robley of Plymouth, MN, Dave (Johni) Schlindwein of Des Moines, Kathy Pfohl and fiancé Eric Dagle of Dubuque; six grandchildren, Amalie (Jason) Bowling, Joseph Schlindwein, Mitchell Pfohl, Lauren Robley, Julia Robley, Claire Pfohl; four great-grandchildren and soon to be five; brother-in-law, Linus Flick of New Hampton; sister-in-law, Margaret Whalen of New Hampton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons in infancy, Dennis Schlindwein, Steven Schlindwein; two sisters, Shirley Kane, Madonna Flick; one brother, Donald Whalen; her former husband, Dick Schlindwein.
