Nellie was born September 25, 1912,
in Bremer County, the daughter of Edward and Minnie
(Briggs) Zwanziger. She was united in marriage to Adolph
H. Oberheu on October 15, 1930, in eagle Grove, Iowa.
They farmed in Bremer County for 40 years before
retiring to Plainfield. Adolph passed away on November
20, 1990.
Nellie was an active member of
Western Douglas Church until her health started to fail.
She loved to cook for her family and friends. She cooked
for a local establishment called L & D Tap. She also
worked at the Plainfield School as a cook. Sewing was
her favorite hobby. She made many craft items that she
gave away including pillows, geese, clowns and
especially mice. The thing Nellie enjoyed most,
however, was babysitting for her grandchildren, great
grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Nellie
liked to make scrapbooks for them; she would paste all
their cards and pictures into a notebook. She also loved
to play the piano and sing songs to them.
She is survived by a daughter,
Jeanette (Howard) Schluter of Nashua; one son,
Loren (Chris) Oberheu of Janesville; a sister-in-law,
Kathryn Zwanziger of Waverly; 10 grandchildren; 15
great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great grandchildren.
Nellie was preceded in death by her
husband, Adolph; a son, James; her parents; one brother,
Edward Zwanziger; three sisters, Ruth Hansen, Marry
Henniges and Nettie Dietz.
