Eleanor Rose
Harkrader age 90 of Fredericksburg died Sunday, August 31,
2008, at Hillcrest Home in Sumner.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September
6, 2008, at Peace United Church of Christ, Fredericksburg
with Pastor Laura Hucke officiating. Burial will be in
Rose Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Friday, September 5,
2008, at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in
Fredericksburg. Visitation continues an hour prior to the
service at the church.
Eleanor was born June 16, 1918, on the Schutte family
farm near Westgate, IA, the daughter of William and
Lillian (Hucke) Schutte. She attended rural country school
around Fredericksburg and graduated from the
Fredericksburg High School in 1936. She then attended the
former Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and then
began teaching country school in the Sumner and
Fredericksburg areas. On August 4, 1946, at The Little
Brown Church, Nashua, she married Floyd G. Harkrader. To
this union one son, Dennis was born. The couple initially
lived in Kansas a brief time and then moved to the
Fredericksburg area where they farmed. Eleanor taught
tap-dancing, and gave piano lessons, organ lessons and
accordion lessons. She had been the organist for the Peace
United Church of Christ for many years. Eleanor will be
remembered for her love of cooking, baking and sharing her
food with others as well as her love for time with family,
friends and her students.
Survivors include one son, Dennis (Alice) Harkrader of
Fredericksburg; three grandchildren, Teena (Brian) Rull of
St. Louis, MO, Sabrina Harkrader (Sam Venegas)) of
Chicago, IL Grant (Amanda) Harkrader of Fredericksburg,
IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband
Floyd on January 22, 2003; two brothers, Rollis and Bobby
Schutte.
