Phyllis E. Hinch,
age 83 formerly of Nashua and Cedar Rapids, died Sunday
morning, March 16, 2008, at the Woodland Terrace at
Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held
10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at St. Michael’s
Catholic Church in Nashua with Rev Carl Ries officiating.
Phyllis’s five granddaughters will be the gift bearers,
Angela Wages, Jennifer Smith, Melissa Bauer, Amy Hinch,
Katie Majewski and Kristi Majewski.
Burial will be in St. Michael’s
Cemetery in Nashua with grandsons, Brian Strike, A.J. Hinch, Daniel
Hinch Jr., Matt Hinch and Patrick Majewski serving as
pallbearers.
Visitation will be one hour prior to
services at St. Michael’s Hall on Wednesday. Memorials
may be directed to the family.
Phyllis Elaine Hinch was born February
20, 1925, in Bouton, Iowa, the daughter of Oscar and Vera
(Raymond) Chandler. She moved to Nashua with her family
and attended Nashua Community Schools, graduating from
the Nashua High School in 1943.
Phyllis was united in marriage to
Patrick Daniel Hinch on October 11, 1947, at St.
Michael’s Catholic Church in Nashua. To this union five
children were born. She worked for several years as the
City Clerk for Nashua. Shortly after her husband’s death
in 1985, Phyllis moved to Cedar Rapids. She was a sales
associate at Von Maur in the Lindale Plaza in Cedar Rapids
for seven years. She then went to work for Rockwell
Collins as a receptionist until her retirement.
Phyllis was a member of St. Michael’s
Catholic Church, where she served as choir director for
many years. She was the unofficial secretary, typing and printing bulletins for the parish.
Phyllis also sang for many weddings at the Little Brown
Church near Nashua. She enjoyed crafts, ceramics, knitting
and of course she loved music. Phyllis was very proud of
her grandchildren and loved being with her family.
Phyllis is survived by two daughters,
Sandra (Stuart) Strike of Urbana and Theresa (Jay)
Majewski of Greene; two sons, Daniel (Diana) Hinch of
Cummings and Douglas Hinch of Des Moines; eleven
grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her
husband, Patrick on April 24, 1985; a son, Dennis on
February 8, 1993; her parents; five brothers, Tim, Duff,
Dick, Kenneth and Tom Chandler; six sisters, Nancy
Chandler, Unabelle Trytten, Irma Frederick, Harriet
Fisher, Shirley Rollins and Mary White.
