age 86 of New Hampton died Monday afternoon, April 14, 2008, at the New
Hampton Care Center.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m.
Saturday, April 19, 2008, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel
Catholic Church, Lawler with Rev. Marvin Salz
celebrating the Mass. The pall will be placed on the
casket by his two daughters. Colleen Busta will be the
vocalist. The offertory gifts will be
presented by his granddaughters; Sarah Pickar, Michele
Friedman, Jennifer Friedman, Staci Jansma, Tessa
Friedman, Jaclyn Valvoda and Kelly Friedman.
Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, New
Hampton with grandsons, Chris Hoey, Steven Friedman,
Andrew Friedman, Mark Friedman, Chad Valvoda, Scott
Valvoda and Craig Friedman serving as pallbearers.
Friends may call 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 18,
2008, at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in
New Hampton where there will be a 5:00 p.m. parish
scripture service. Visitation continues an hour prior to
the service at church on Saturday.
Robert George Friedman was born September 25, 1921, in
Ionia, Iowa the son of Henry and Johanna (Fishback)
Friedman. He attended rural country schools and then
farmed. He married Vera L. Drewelow on November 14,
1944, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Hampton. The
couple farmed in the Bassett and Ionia area for 15 years
and then moved to a farm in the Lawler area in 1960.
They retired and moved to New Hampton in 1996. Bob
enjoyed farming and working on machinery. He also had an
interest in airplanes and was at one time a pilot. Bob
had a great love and admiration for his children,
grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include four sons, Richard Friedman
of Wichita, KS, Michael Friedman of New Hampton, Robert
E. (Maxine) Friedman of Floyd, Kevin (Deb) Friedman of
Marble Rock, IA; two daughters, Kathleen (William) Hoey
of New Hampton and Nancy (Ron) Valvoda of Elma. 14
grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, on
August 19, 2007; and a brother, John Friedman in 1996.
